With the observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday on Thursday, the Tribune asked local residents, "What is your most memorable Thanksgiving?"

The following are some responses we received:

Allen Schellack of Fort Scott

Moore

"I was about 14 years old and it was Thanksgiving at my grandparents' house. All the family was together. There were at least 25 of us all together at one time. There were people I didn't get to see a lot, all in one place at one time."

Scott Moore of Fort Scott

"Several years ago, it was the last Thanksgiving with all the family together. My (late) sister was still with us. My brother and I did a comedy routine before making breakfast for everybody. It was about 11 or 12 years ago. That was my most memorable Thanksgiving."

Mohler

Dav Mohler of Fort Scott

"One I remember the most is celebrating Thanksgiving with British and French troops in Saudi Arabia in 1992 when I was in the Air Force during Operation Desert Storm. It was a traditional feast. I've celebrated every Thanksgiving with my family since then. That was a precious memory for me.'

Judy Renard of Fort Scott

Renard

"Several years ago, I don't remember when, we lived in Mapleton. There was a big snowstorm. I looked out the window and it was snowing like crazy. We had all this wonderful food prepared and nobody could get to our house. We had it (Thanksgiving) later on."

Eliezer Abella of Miami, Fla.

Abella, who was shopping in downtown Fort Scott with his family on Tuesday, is originally from Cuba. Abella said he is in the area to spend Thanksgiving with his brother who lives in Girard. Abella said his first Thanksgiving spent in the U.S was in 1969.

Abella became emotional when talking about celebrating the holiday and reuniting with family for Thanksgiving at his brother's home in Girard. Abella said he and his three brothers, as well as his children and several grandchildren plan to be there for the holiday.

"This year will be the best Thanksgiving," Abella said.
