Tiger JV tennis ties for 5th in large tournament
CHANUTE -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team tied for fifth place in its final tournament of the season here Monday.
There were eight teams, including two from Labette County and an "SEK Combo" team, which allowed extra players from any school to get some matches in.
Both doubles teams finised with 2-1 record. The No. 2 team of Addison Cunningham and Madi Larson finished in third place. They picked up a win over Jessica and Bridget Bradbury of LCHS Red, 6-2. In the next round, Maddie Baden and Alexis Pichler of Pittsburg took a 6-4 win. In the third-place match, the Fort Scott duo beat Sage Collins/Selena Stitch of Chanute, 6-2.
Emily Adams and Ashlee Montojo lost their first-round match in No. 1 doubles to Jaryn Folk/Emily Gatewood of Parsons, 6-1. They beat Kaleigh Benning/Prarie Bogle of LCHS, playing for the SEK Combo team, in straight sets in the consolation semifinal. Then they beat Candance Carr/Kierston Sailsbury of LCHS Red, 6-2.
Two of the three Tigers singles entrants finished in seventh place. Kristall Castillo finished seventh in No. 1 singles with a straight set loss to Laney Baighman of LCHS Red, a 6-4 loss to Nyeesha Natt of Parsons, and a 6-0 win over teammate Savanah Dixon, who was playing for the combo team. Dixon also lost in straight sets to Segan Shire of Independence and Chelsie Kinser of LCHS Gold.
Kendall Madison was seventh in No. 2 singles. She lost to Kaylee Bryant of Independence, 6-3, and Breanna Albertson of LCHS Red, 6-2. She defeated Megan Thomas of LCHS gold in the final match, 6-1.
