Fort Scott High's volleyball team won two of three matches in a home non-league quadrangular at the FSHS gymnasium Thursday evening, beating Prairie View and Osawatomie in the two matches. Louisburg, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A-Division I by the Kansas Volleyball Association, won all three matches it played, including a sweep of the Tigers.

Also, Fort Scott went to Mound City Tuesday to face Jayhawk-Linn in a best-of-three dual, sweeping that 25-22, 25-22, 26-24. This was not on the original season schedule but added when it was realized the Tigers could play an extra match if they wanted.

Fort Scott swept Prairie View, 25-7, 25-11, and Osawatomie, 25-14, 25-13. Louisburg claimed 25-12, 25-14 wins over the Tigers.

Overall, the Tigers are 7-6 on the season and have won four of their last six matches.

"I saw a lot of good things," Fort Scott head coach Carol Bingesser said. "It was a nice build up, playing Prairie View and Osawatomie, a nice way to get up there for Louisburg. It was tough, but I liked that last (lineup) that I had there. I think they did a good job."

The Tigers scored the first 5 points of the Prairie View match as they went out to a 20-4 lead. The Buffalos only scored one point in the first set when they had the serve.

Using some players off the bench more in the second set, Fort Scott still got out to a 6-2 lead. Prairie View got within 11-8 but then saw Fort Scott score 7 straight points as Ashley Cook served 3 aces during that run.

Cook served 4 aces in the match and also had 5 kills and 5 assists. Elisha Hasenplaugh collected 7 kills and served 3 aces. Abi Keating handed out 6 assists and Katie Gorman picked up 5 digs.

Osawatomie had the first set of the second dual tied 8-8 before the Tigers went on a 13-2 run that boosted the lead to 21-10. During that stretch, the Tigers served 3 more aces, including 2 by Katie Gorman.

Fort Scott scored 17 of the first 20 of the second set, once again limiting the opponent's offense. The Trojans didn't score while serving until they were down 18-5.

Cook had 10 kills, 7 assists and 3 aces for the Tigers in that match. Hasenplaugh came up with 6 kills. Keating handed out 12 assists. Gorman and Abby Denton each had 2 aces and Gorman also had 7 digs.

Louisburg (14-5) had several six footers ready to give the Tigers problems and the roles were reversed in the first set. The Wildcats didn't let Fort Scott score while serving until it was 23-8.

"Evey single one of their girls was able to get a foot above our block and it's tough to stop anything like that," Bingesser said. "We gave them a lot of free balls and if you do that, they're going to pound it back down on you."

Fort Scott came out stronger at the beginning of the second set, trailing just 10-8. But then the Wildcats went on a 7-point run and never looked back.

Cook had 4 kills, 4 assists and 9 digs for the Tigers. Keating had 3 kills and 4 assists while Hasenplaugh picked up 3 kills and Gorman had 5 digs.

In Tuesday's match at Jayhawk-Linn, Cook recorded 10 kills, 10 assists, 12 digs and served 3 aces. Keating was credited with 19 assists, 5 digs and 3 aces. Hasenplaugh had 7 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces. Gorman led in digs with 25 while Gorman had 14. Aubree Altic had 8 kills.

The Tigers will play in the Pittsburg Tournament on Saturday and it will be a long day if Fort Scott makes the finals. This year's tournament has 15 teams, according to Bingesser, with three pools of five teams each to start things off.

"Aurora (Mo.) will be there," Bingesser said. "(Class 6A) Leavenworth is there. Paola is there again. It won't be a cakewalk. The championship match isn't scheduled until 5:45."
