Trustees take no action after lengthy closed session

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

After two-and-half hours of discussion during an executive session Tuesday, the Fort Scott Community College Board of Trustees emerged with no action and no explanation for the more than 50 people who had waited outside the closed doors.

The trustees called the special meeting for the purpose of going into an executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.

Initially, the session lasted one hour, but was extended for an additional half-hour three times.

Zack Reynolds, of The Reynolds Law Firm, represents the board and was present during the executive session. After the meeting concluded, Reynolds declined comment on the nature of the executive session.

Trustee President Robert Nelson also declined comment after the meeting, stating he had nothing to report "at this point."

FSCC President Clayton Tatro was absent from the meeting. FSCC Director of Public Relations Jason Hogue said Tatro is on vacation.

Two trustees, John Kerr and Dick Hedges were absent, but voted via telephone conferencing to enter the executive session.

The board is next scheduled to meet on Aug. 11 for its regular meeting.
