Fort Scott was the site of many Fourth of July festivities over the weekend. The annual Burke Street Parade was held Friday morning. Activities and entertainment could be found at Ellis Park, which was also a celebration of recent improvements and additions at the park. The Fort Scott National Historic Site held a two-day Highlights in History event, and a hot dog eating contest was a feature at the annual Riverfront Festival. A ribbon cutting was held to commemorate the opening of the Riverfront Park Trail.
