Harper a winner at Crest meet

IOLA -- Shania Harper won girls' javelin here Thursday at the Crest Invitational.

Harper won the event with an effort of 99 feet, 8 inches. The runner-up, Daisy Miller of Pleasanton, finished exactly 12 feet behind.

Harper also won a third-place medal in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 58 seconds and finished fifth in the 800 in 2:45.

Emily Shinn finished fourth in javelin at 85' 9" and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.09 seconds. She was also fifth in high jump, clearing 4' 6".

Uniontown's boys had three second-place results, two from Cole Schafer. He was second in the 200 meters in 24 seconds flat and in the long jump with a mark of 18' 1". Schafer added a third-place medal in the 100 meters in 11.84 with Josh Wisely fourth in 11.87.

Montana Beerbower placed fifth in the 1,699 in 5:36 for the Eagles. John Reed placed sixth in high jump at 5' 6".

On May 1, the Eagles were in Neodesha. Results from that meet:

Harper finished second in the girls' 1,600-meter run, third in the 800 meters and fifth in javelin.

* Jary Harp finished third in the boys' 400-meter dash, third in the 1,600 and tied for fifth in high jump.

* Reed took fourth in the 100 meters and tied for fifth in high jump.

* Tommy Joles placed fifth in long jump.

* Wisely was sixth in the 200 meters.

* The boys' 4x100-meter relay team of Schafer, Miller, Wisely and Reed finished fourth.

The next event for Uniontown's boys is the Three Rivers League Relays on May 15 at Pleasanton. Action will begin at 10 a.m.
