Ora "Bode" Roberts
Ora "Bode" Roberts, 81, of Arma, Kansas died at 2:14 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the University of Kansas Medical Center at Kansas City, Kan. with his family by his side.
Mr. Roberts was born April 25, 1933 at Lowry City, Mo., the son of Ora and Myrtle Smith Roberts. He moved with his family to Fulton, Kan. and graduated from Fulton High School in 1950. He worked as a truck driver for Harvest Brand, Utermoehlen Trucking, and Continental Coal for over 35 years. He also worked for Fort Scott Community College as a truck driving instructor, retiring in 1998.
In 1953, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in Panama as a corporal. He received his honorable discharge from the army in 1955 and returned to Fort Scott, Kan. He married Margaret Jones and had two daughters. They later divorced.
In 1984, he married Sharon Fleury in Miami, Okla. and they would have celebrated their 30th anniversary on July 23, 2014. He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of the Pittsburg Masonic Lodge 187, the Lon Helm Post 182 American Legion at Arma, and the AARP.
Bode is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; four daughters, Kim Jones of Pittsburg, Lori Roberts of Wichita, Kristi (Joe) Lallemand of Girard, and Karri (Greg) Harryman of Arma; granddaughter, Jessica Jones of Pittsburg and four grandsons, Justin (Lisa) Lallemand of Thornton, Colo., Brandon (Emilie) Lallemand of Arma, Kyle (Elizabeth) Harryman of Overland Park, Kan., and Korey (Ariel) Harryman of Arma. Two precious great-granddaughters, Megan Lallemand and Khloe Harryman and new little girl Lallemand, due in June. There are also several nieces and nephews who were very special to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Oliver and Harold Roberts and two sisters, Hilda Payne and Eva Flora.
Mr. Roberts was cremated according to his wishes. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with the Rev. Dalton James Winslow officiating. The family will receive friends following his services.
Graveside services for the remains will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at the National Cemetery at Fort Scott, Kan. The Fort Riley Burial Detail will conduct graveside flag folding services.
