Marjorie Darlene Murray, age 77, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Mercy Hospital after a short illness. She was born on April 19, 1937, in Vernon County, Mo., the daughter of Edwin William and Mary Josephine Smith Sheehy. She graduated from Fort Scott High School. Darlene retired from Medicalodge of Fort Scott after many years working in the laundry room.

Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Thurston and husband Randy, Fulton, Kan.; a son, Scott Murray and wife Lizz, Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, Louise Gwin, Fort Scott, Cathy Sheehy, Prairie Village, Kan., and Kay Medick and husband Bernie, Gladstone, Mo.; five grandchildren, Danny Thurston and wife Lisa, Fort Scott, Jeremy Thurston and wife Shelly, Denver, Colo., Justin Thurston and Jennifer Sackett, Fulton, Robert Evans, Las Vegas, Nev., and Christina Murray and fiancé Noah Naughton, Wichita; and 12 great grandchildren, Erin, Jacob, and Sadie Thurston, Fort Scott, Jordon, Madison, Ryann, and Chance Thurston, Fulton, Emily and Sarina Farrington, Fulton, Conner and Marra Parker, Fort Scott, Steven Thurston, Joplin, Mo., and Robert Krom, Denver. Colo. Also surviving are special friends Debbie Stewart, Debbie Allen, caregiver Susan DiNardo, and Darlene's cat Abby. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Virginia Lee; a great granddaughter, Lauren McKenzie Thurston; and her parents.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Cremation will follow. Private family burial will take place at a later date in the Barnesville Cemetery.
