Eagles, 'Hawks split

UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's softball team split a pair of games with Jayhawk-Linn Friday, prevailing 7-5 and narrowly falling 4-3, in Three Rivers League play.

"These two games were good competition for us," Eagle head coach Paula Coyan said. "I was pleased with how the girls kept their composure during these two intense games."

In the Uniontown victory, pitcher Taylor Wade (3-1) went the distance. She was nicked for 11 hits but allowed only one walk. She struck out 3.

Mandie Ridge was a perfect 3 for 3, with three 3 and 3 RBI; 2 of her hits were triples. Britney Stokes collected 2 hits and 2 runs. Lakyn Coyan scored 2 runs. Torrie Hathaway and Holly Shinn each had 2 RBI.

In the setback, pitcher Kyley Brown (2-2) took the loss for the Eagles, despite only giving up 5 hits and 2 walks. She struck out 8

Shinn paced the Eagles with 2 hits and a run. Lakyn Coyan added a double and 2 runs.

Lauren Sluder did most of the damage for the visitors, collecting 3 of her team's hits. She was also the winning pitcher, scattering 7 hits, not walking anyone and fanning nine.

Uniontown (5-1 TRL, 6-2 overall) was at Marmaton Valley for a legaue doubleheader Monday.
