PARSONS -- Fort Scott and Labette split a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division doubleheader here Saturday while Highland was swept by last-place Allen, putting the Greyhounds in a tie with Highland for seventh place in the division with Labette and Allen tied for ninth one game behind.

Fort Scott won Saturday's opener 7-4 but lost the second game 12-7. Allen swept Highland, 3-2 and 4-2 and the Red Devils won three of the four games played between them over the weekend, splitting on Thursday.

Fort Scott and Highland are both 7-17 in the division while Labette and Allen are both 6-18. The top eight teams in both divisions qualify for the Region VI Tournament.

The 'Hounds (17-22 overall) led after one inning 3-2 and added one run to the margin in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Labette (12-20) tried to rally in the seventh, scoring twice. But Matt Peterson came in to close the door and pick up his second save of the season.

Kaden Shaffer, Jake Harvey, Kolby Greenslade and Josh Griffith all had 2 hits for the Greyhounds. Griffith also drove in 2 runs.

Cody Tolbert (1-2) pitched the first 6 1/3 innings for Fort Scott, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, walking one and striking out 5.

Fort Scott led the second game, 6-5, going into the bottom of the seventh. Labette scored 7 times in that inning to take control. Peterson (2-4) was stuck with the loss this time as he was unable to stop the Cardinals' rally when he came in during the seventh.

Greenslade, Lance Barkley and Doug Jenkins each had 2 hits for Fort Scott.
