Vernon E. Anderson, 84, El Dorado, died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Lakepoint Rehabilitation in El Dorado. A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Mt. Orum Cemetery, Redfield, Kan. Visitation with the family present is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado, Kan., which is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born in Redfield, Kan., April 9, 1929 the son of James Earl and Eva (LaRue) Anderson. Vernon graduated from Fort Scott High School, and had served in the U.S. Army. He was a clerk for the Union Pacific Rail Road until retiring after 30 years of service. He later worked for the Butler County Landfill where he worked for 11 years. He had made his home in El Dorado since 1958. On Nov. 20, 1955, he and Carmen Clark were united in marriage at Blue Mound, Kan. He was a member of the American Legion; loved to fish; garden where he was famous for the tomatoes he grew; doing woodworking; and watching KU Basketball.

Those he leaves including his wife Carmen of the home are two sons Lewis Anderson, Redfield, Kan.; Jim Anderson and wife Linda, Council Grove, Kan.; one sister Carolyn Lawson, Smithville, Mo.; four grandchildren Katie Tappan and husband Lucas; John Sigle; Christa Ingenthorn and husband Eric; Joseph Sigle; and four great-grandchildren Phillip and Nicholas Tappan; Capree and Camdyn Ingenthorn.

He was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Lee Anderson and a sister Angie Milford.
