Dolores June Cummings

Dolores June Cummings, age 85, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott. She was born March 31, 1928, in Newton, Kan., the daughter of Frank Chester Hamilton and Anna Charlotte Hubenett Hamilton. Dolores graduated from the Newton High School. She later attended Fort Scott Community College. She married Lester Cummings on Jan. 24, 1947. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1989. In her earlier years, Dolores worked for the Newton Telephone Company. In addition to working on the family farm, she was also employed by the Fort Scott Public Library and by Rosebrough's Shoes. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and the White Shrine.

Survivors include three children, Judy Wilson and husband, Mike, of Uniontown, Kan., David Cummings, of Mound City, Kan., and Janet White and husband, Darryl, of Parker, Kan. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Joyce Cummings, Prescott, Kan.; five grandchildren, Bill Cummings and wife, Terry, Mound City, Kan., Mitch Leavell and wife, Kim, Garland, Kan., Jenny Cummings, Mound City, Kan., Becky Farrell and husband, Todd, Fort Scott, Kan., and Dan Cummings and wife, Angie, Fulton, Kan.; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Diyorio, Santa Maria, Calif. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Cummings; five brothers, Hersal Briggs, James Dean, Jack Hamilton, Gary Hamilton and Richard Hamilton; and three sisters, Gloria Osborne, Joan Yaste, and Opal Racster.

Elder David Nickelson will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Curry Cemetery west of Mound City. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
