Charles Lee Magee

Charles Lee Magee, age 93, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 19, 1920 in Nevada, Mo., the son of Charles Ray Magee and Laura Lee Hopkins Magee. Charles was a 1941 graduate of Fort Scott High School. He served during WWII in the Army Air Corps. He married Sadie Leffler in February of 1942. She preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 1970. He Married Darlene Coleman in 1973. They later divorced. Charles was self-employed in several local businesses including the implement business, the restaurant business, local ice company and many demolition and rebuilding projects. He was involved with over 50 home and business construction projects. He was a past president of the Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce and past president of Fort Scott Industries, which secured to present industrial park location. Charles also served as Fort Scott Finance Commissioner. He was a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, the Fort Scott Scottish Rite and the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg. He also was a life member of the Elks Club, life member of Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Bourbon County Shrine Club. He looked forward to his Monday morning coffee buddies at McDonald's and his Wednesday night friends at the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Danny Lee Magee and wife Shari, Fort Scott, Bradley Gene Magee and wife Jan, Jonesboro, Ark., and Richard D. Magee and wife Patty, Fort Scott; two daughters, Connie Sue Conroy and husband Michael and Virginia May Cotter and husband Mick, all of Fort Scott. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Glenn and Bill Magee, and four sisters, May Greer, Mary Davis, Opal Lewis and Ila Magee.

Pastor Dan Pempin will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Cheney Witt Chapel. The Eulogy will be given by Sam Mason. Burial will follow in U.S. National Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Mirza Transportation Fund and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
