'Hounds win at NEO

MIAMI, Okla. -- Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team defeated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in five sets here Wednesday night in non-conference play.

The Greyhounds won 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-6. It was just the second time a Fort Scott match has gone to five sets this season. The 'Hounds lost to Seminole State, Okla., in five on the second day of the Fort Scott Tournament on Aug. 24.

It was the first time the Greyhounds won in a five-set match since Oct. 12 of last season, when they defeated the host team at the East Central Missouri Tournament.

Fort Scott improved to 5-8 on the season. NEO A&M fell to 5-4 with its fourth straight defeat, all to Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division opponents. No other details were available at press time.

Friday and Saturday, the Greyhounds will be taking part in the Allen Tournament at Iola. Fort Scott faces Dodge City at 3 p.m. and Neosho County at 7 p.m. Friday. They take on NEO A&M again at 9 a.m. Saturday morning and conclude the tournament with a 1 p.m. match against the Bacone University junior varsity.

Fort Scott will face NEO two more times this season. The Lady Norse will be their first opponent in pool play at the Coffeyville Tournament on Oct. 4. And the teams will face each other in a dual at Arnold Arena on Oct. 18.

NOTES -- NEO's last win was against Independence on Sept. 6. Since then, NEO has lost to Coffeyville, Labette, Allen and Fort Scott....

Nationally, Fort Scott's Jacy Ermel is 36th in kills per set with an average of 3.08. That is sixth in the Jayhawk Conference. The Uniontown graduate is also 36th in the nation in hitting percentage, .319....
