4 unanswered goals drop Tigers in SEK match

Fort Scott High's soccer team scored first but Independence's 4 unanswered tallies gave the Bulldogs a 4-1 win in Southeast Kansas League play at Ellis Park Monday afternoon.

On a cool, misty day, Jonah Jones scored for the Tigers, taking a pass from Alex Combs in the 14th minute of play. Jones has scored all four of the Tigers' goals this season.

The Bulldogs (1-0 SEK, 3-2 overall), who were playing their fourth match in eight days, broke through just seconds before the halftime with with a goal by Collin Cushing.

Caleb Bromley broke the tie in the 43rd minute for Independence. Lane Schicke made it 3-1 in the 48th minute. And Conagher Welch took a pass from Schicke in the 56th minute to score the final goal.

Fort Scott, which fell to 0-2 SEK, 1-4 overall, hosts Riverton in a non-league match at 4:30 p.m. today.
