JV tennis goes 1-1 in dual with Pittsburg squads

PITTSBURG -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team went to Pittsburg Tuesday to play a pair of best-of-nine duals with two Purple Dragon JV teams.

Pittsburg Purple defeated Fort Scott in the first dual, 9 matches to none. The Tigers won the second dual from Pittsburg White, 6-3.

There were six singles and three doubles matches in each dual. Here's how things went for the Tigers going by division:

* -- Mikayla Norris lost to Abi Felter of Pittsburg Purple, 6-2, in No. 1 singles but defeated Arianna Daniels of Pittsburg White, 6-4.

* -- Breanne Leslie played No. 2 singles. She lost to Sam Cicero of Pittsburg Purple, 6-0, and beat Hannah Oertle of Pitt White, 6-3.

* -- Ashlee Montojo lost to Chelsea McQuarie of Pitt Purple, 6-0, and Mary Fasco, 6-2, in No. 3 singles.

* -- Emily Adams played No. 4 singles, losing to Aliza Benedict of Pitt Purple, 6-3, and beating Breiyan Binegar of Pitt White, 6-1.

* -- Briana Williams lost to Trina Paul of Pitt Purple, 6-1, in No. 5 singles and beat Emma Stalnaker, 6-0.

* -- In No. 6 singles, Jocey Diaz lost to Chania Stewart of Pitt Purple, 6-0, and defeated Adin Johns of Pitt White, 6-0.

* -- Norris and Adams played No. 1 doubles. They lost to Felter and McQuarie, 6-2, and to Daniels and Delaney Burton of Pitt White in a tie-breaker, 6-5 (4).

* Leslie and Montojo were paired in No. 2 doubles. They lost to Benedict and Cicero, 6-4, but beat Vanessa Blackburn and Stephanie Neville of Pitt White, 6-1.

* -- Williams and Diaz played No. 3 doubles. They lost to Paul and Emile Cirlee of Pitt Purple and Kaylah Wilson and Reagan Woods of Pitt White, both by 6-0 scores.

The next outing for the Fort Scott JV team will be at Parsons on Sept. 10 for the Labette County Tournament.
