Peggy Jo Sutterby McNally

Saturday, March 16, 2013

Peggy Jo Sutterby McNally, 72, of Windham, Conn., beloved wife of Thomas J.McNally Jr., passed away on Jan. 21, 2013 at Douglas Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Iola, Kan. on May 18, 1940, the daughter of the late Walter and Faye Sutterby.

She grew up on a farm in Mapleton, graduated from Blue Mound High School, was a member of the Mapleton Methodist Church and was employed by Key Work Clothes , Braymore Coat Factory and the Town of Windham.

As a child she had an affinity to being outdoors on the farm, whether it was being in the fields with her father or jumping bales of hay with her horses. In 1974 she moved to Connecticut with Thomas J. McNally Jr., and in January 1975, took his hand in marriage. With her marriage she also became the proud stepmother of six boys and one girl. Later that year, she gave birth to her baby boy.

She loved taking her stephildren, son and eventually her grandchildren to her Kansas farm in the summertime. She used this time to show them what life is like growing up on a farm, and loved to watch as they learned to bale hay, milk cows, feed calves, drive tractors and most all, ride horses.

While she loved being able to share her childhood experiences with her children and grandchildren, this was also her moment to enjoy spending time with her parents and siblings, staying up late at night with them to look at old family pictures and catch up on the gossip of her hometown.

While she enjoyed making family memories in the heart of the country, she never shied away from taking trips on the east coast with her husband and son. Whether it was the dunes in Cape Cod, the monuments of D.C., or the quiet cabins in Vermont, she went to each place ready to see new sights and make new memories.

She is survived her loving husband, Thomas J. McNally Jr. of Windham, Conn.; her son John McNally and wife Nova of Victoria, Minn.; her stepchildren, Matthew McNally and wife Susan of 29 Palms, Calif., Mona Studebaker of Chesterfield, S.C., Eugene McNally and wife Carol of Portsmouth, Va., Phillip McNally and wife Donna of Willimantic, Conn., and Thomas McNally of Windham, Conn.; along with 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her siblings, Marlyn Sutterby and wife Virginia, Joyce Hueston and husband Raymond, Jack Sutterby and wife Bonnie, all of Mapleton, and Sharon Lund and husband John of Jasper, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Faye Sutterby, her in-laws Thomas J. McNally Sr. and Catherin McNally, her stepchildren, Chris McNally and Keith McNally, her grandchild Christopher McNally Jr., her nephew Jeffrey Sutterby, her great-nephew Justin Hueston and her great-niece Stephanie Hueston.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Mapleton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Mapleton Cemetery. There will be a potluck meal following the services for all to meet and greet her family.

Memorials may be made to the Mapleton Fire Department.
