Uniontown girls rally to beat Marmaton Valley

MORAN -- Uniontown's girls rallied from 5 points down to beat rival Marmaton Valley in Three Rivers League action here Friday night, avenging a season-opening 48-40 loss at Uniontown.

The Eagles (3-3 TRL, 6-10 overall) trailed 33-28 after three quarters but outscored the Wildcats 23-14 in the fourth.

"The girls dug deep in the fourth to come from behind for a win," Uniontown head coach Dustin Miller said. "I am extremely proud of how the team responded to adversity."

DaNisha Robinson led the Eagles with 22 points. Hayden Rathbun followed with 17 points and had 11 rebounds to record a double-double.

Robinson had 9 rebounds herself. Rathbun also picked up 4 steals. Mandie Ridge handed out 5 assists and Lakyn Coyan dealt 4 of the Eagles' 17.

Kacie Shadden led Marmaton Valley with 14 points. Kailey Boyd and Mackenzie Tynon each added 11.

Marmaton Valley fell to 2-4 in league play and 5-10 overall.

The Tribune received no information from the boys' contest prior to Friday night's deadline.

Uniontown's basketball teams have a week off to prepare for Pleasanton in a TRL doubleheader that will be the centerpiece of Homecoming activities next Friday night. Both Blu-Jay teams defeated Altoona-Midway in league play Friday night. Pleasanton's girls (3-1, 12-2) routed the Jets 52-14. Blu-Jay boys (1-3, 6-8) got their first league victory by pouncing the winless Jets, 64-30.

JUNIOR VARSITY -- Marmaton Valley defeated Uniontown, 25-12, in the junior varsity contest. Shaynna Harper and Sarah Townsend each scored 4 points for the Eagles.
