Josh Jones and Bud Hall will sign the final papers for the deal today, which includes addresses from 2 through 10 S. National Ave.
Included are the old Othick Abstract office building and the offices previously occupied by Kale Nelson State Farm Insurance and Dr. Randall Holloway.
"We'd been looking for a building through Citizens National Bank. We're going to have booths for vendors to sell antiques, collectables -- flea market-type booths. We like to buy gold and silver and collectables," said Hall.
"The store is in the heart of the community. Now it's not going to be vacant anymore. The Penney's building is fixed up, too, and 8 N. Main, south of Papa Don's, is pending," noted Stewart.
"J.R. has done a lot to help us," Hall said.
The China Buffet restaurant will house about 30-40 vendor booths when filled.
"We hope to rent out the old Othick building. We have a couple of people interested. We also hope to have climate-controlled storage units above Dr. Holloway's office and the old Kale Nelson office," Hall said. "We also hope to rent out the old Kale Nelson office."
The China Buffet closed in the summer of 2008 and the interior looks as if the eatery's operators just went on a break -- the soy sauce is still in the center of each table.
But Hall said there is a restaurateur interested in purchasing all the furniture inside the former Chinese restaurant.
"We'll be hiring people for the weekend more than likely. I have three sons; they'll help out some," Hall said.
The name of the new business is Downtowner Properties LLC. Hall can be reached at 224-3597 and Jones at 215-3680.
Jones is also the owner of Fort Scott Sanitation. Hall is a personal care attendant.
