She graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1947. She graduated from Fort Scott Community College in 1949, followed by a year at Baker University. She married Dan Dobbins on Oct. 1, 1950, in Fort Scott. She worked most of her life in her grandfather's grocery store in various capacities. She enjoyed checking the most. She and Dan retired in 1993. Carolyn served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the First Church of God.
Survivors include her husband Dan of the home; two sons, Daniel Mark Dobbins and wife Katherine, Fort Worth, Texas, and Thomas Matthew Dobbins and wife Julie, Denver, Colo.; and one daughter, Donna Beth Dugan and husband Dennis, Greeley, Colo. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Danny, Mark, and Matthew Dobbins; Abby and Sarah Dugan; and Luke and Caleb Dobbins; one sister, Phyllis Whiteside, Manhattan, Kan.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph "Bud" Whiteside, and a sister, Linda Marqueling.
Rev. Phil Wilson will conduct graveside services at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
