Tiger boys finish sixth

PAOLA -- Fort Scott High School's boys finished in sixth place at the first Frontenac Kansas National Guard Invitation Saturday after the Tigers fell to the host school, 61-48, in the fifth-place game.

Top-seeded Oklahoma City-Frederick Douglass put on another scoring display in the championship game, rolling by third-seeded Winfield, 99-64.

Fort Scott (4-8) trailed Frontenac, 13-8, after one period. Johnathan Stark scored 8 points in the second period but the Raiders increased their lead by one point to 27-18 at the half.

Stark scored 6 more points in the third and Kaleb DeLaTorre chipped in with a pair of 3-pointers as the Tigers got within 39-36 after three.

The Raiders (7-4) outscored Fort Scott 22-12 in the fourth quarter as Devon Clark scored 8 of his team-leading 14 points.

Frontenac went to the free-throw line 32 times and made 23 charity shots while Fort Scott was 10 of 17.

Stark, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led all scorers with 18 points while DeLaTorre finished with 11. Dylan Clark added 11 points for Frontenac and Matt Standlee chipped in with 10.

Douglass' Stephen Clark lead the All-Tournament Team, scoring 30 three-point goals in the tournament. Teammate DeAngelo Smith was also honored along with Stark, Standlee, Silas Smith of Nevada, Landon North of Riverton, Tucker Hoover and Will Adler of Winfield, and Blake Barto of Frontenac.

Stark scored 49 points in his three tournament games.
