Gladys Marian Strahan, of Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Jan. 13, 2013, with her family at her side. She was born May 2, 1931, in Gentry, Ark., to Gladys "Tex" Marion Beaver and Grace Nan (Parker) Beaver. She grew up in Pittsburg, Kan., where she met and later married her husband Morris "Joe" Strahan on April 5, 1953.

Marian graduated from Saint Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She proudly worked 37 years as a registered nurse in Wichita, Kansas City and Fort Scott. Joe and Marian resided and raised their family in Fort Scott.

Upon retiring from Mercy Hospital in 1993, she continued to touch the lives of others as a volunteer at the hospital and with her involvement at First Christian Church as president of Disciple Women's Fellowship. She recently received recognition for completing 3,000 hours of volunteer work with the hospital auxiliary. Marian enjoyed starting each day with a cup of coffee and chatting with her friends at the Donut Shop.

Marian is survived by her son Steve Strahan and daughter-in-law Cheryl of Gunter, Texas, and daughter Sharon Larsen and son-in-law Brad, of Winfield, Kan. Grandchildren include Cameron and Sarah Strahan, Kyle Larsen, and Caylin Overfield and husband Jesse.

Marian will be joining her husband, Joe Strahan, who passed away May 18, 2002.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with the First Christian Church and the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and may be left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O.
