Marlin L. Kerrick, age 75, a resident of rural Deerfield, Mo., died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at his home. He was born April 16, 1937, in Reeds, Mo., the son of Benjamin Kerrick and Lula Smith Kerrick. Marlin graduated from Fort Scott High School and Fort Scott Junior College.

He married Claribel Johnson on May 27, 1960, at the Clayton Christian Church. Marlin worked as an accountant for the Hudson Oil Co. in Kansas City for 18 years. In 1978, the couple built their present home near Deerfield and Marlin began working as an accountant for the Western Insurance Co. In addition, he also raised cattle. He was a member of the Clayton Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Claribel, of the home; his two children, Debi Hillsman and husband, Bennie, of Schell City, Mo., and Jeff Kerrick and wife, Martha, of Pleasant Hill, Mo. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Danielle Hillsman, Jake Hillsman, Megan Byod and Hayley Kerrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry Kerrick and Don Kerrick and a sister, Karlyn Hill.

Rev. Bill Smith will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Deerfield Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 p.m. until leaving for the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
