Ashley Cook's 3-point shooting rallied Fort Scott High's girls Tuesday night. Brianne Lawrence's rebounding won the game for the Tigers.

Fort Scott never led until Cook hit back-to-back 3-point shots with less than 3 1/2 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Lawrence's putback of a teammate's missed shot with three seconds left in the contest gave the Tigers a 37-35 victory over Chanute in Southeast Kansas League play.

Chanute (3-1 SEK, 7-2 overall), ranked No. 6 in Class 4A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, tied the score for the final time on drive by freshman Anna Bagshaw with 1:41 to go. She could have given the Blue Comets the lead but missed the free throw she earned on the shot.

The Tigers (4-1, 4-4) were content -- very much so -- to work the clock down and burned off over a minute before calling time out with 32 1/2 seconds to go. They called another one with 15.9 seconds left.

On the play after the second time out, Katren Rienbolt got the ball and drove in for a layup but missed the shot. Lawrence was there on the left side of the basket for her 12th and final rebound of the night and put back the miss.

Chanute called time out but Shelby Trout threw the inbound pass too high for teammate Macy Flowers to control and it went out of bounds on the opposite side of the court. The Tigers got the ball in to Lawrence just shy of half court and the Comets couldn't get to her before time ran out.

Though the Tigers tied the score twice in the first quarter, they couldn't find offensive consistency until Cook, who led all scorers with 16 points, hit the first of her triples with 3:27 left in the third. The second one with 2:55 left put Fort Scott ahead for the first time, 29-28. Elisha Hasenplaugh extended the lead with a layup off an inbound pass.

Rienbolt made it 35-32 with 3:01 to go on a reverse layup. She finished with 7 points.

It was a busy night for Cook who also led the junior varsity with 21 points as they beat Chanute, 42-33.
