Royals hurlers Bruce Chen and Will Smith and Royals Hall of Fame Pitcher Dennis Leonard, along with broadcaster Steve Physioc and mascot Sluggerrr, are scheduled to appear in Fort Scott as part of the Royals Caravan on Jan. 21, according to the caravan website.
The caravan will stop at Walmart, 2500 S. Main, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Chen joined the Royals in 2009 and has played for several teams since he first came to the major leagues in 1999.
He went 11-14 this past season with an earned run average of 5.07. During his MLB career, he has 71 wins and 72 losses with an ERA of 4.60, the Royals website said.
Smith, a 2012 rookie with the ball club, has a win-loss record of 6-9 from last season. He had an ERA of 5.32.
Leonard played for the Royals his whole career from 1974-1986. His win-loss record was 144-106 and his ERA was 3.70. He had 1,323 strikeouts.
Team mascot Sluggerrr will also be on hand.
Collections of care packages will be taken by the USO for service members returning or leaving for the service. Needed items are Individually wrapped toothbrushes, beef jerky, drink packets that may be added to water and pudding cups.
Those attending the event, inside the store, may bring or create handwritten thank-you cards for troops. A craft station will be set up where people can make them.
