A Christmas dinner was held at the farm of Larry and Vickie Shead.
Guests were: Craig and Danielle Hermiller of Detroit, Mich., Charles Corporon and Rose Campbell of Pittsburg, and Mary Virginia Shead of Arcadia,
Then on Saturday, Dec. 29, another gathering at the Shead farm included Larry and Vickie Shead, Mark, Haley, Katy, and Benjamin Shead, of Fort Scott, Charles Corporon and Rose Campbell of Pittsburg, Ralph and Cindy Shead of Carl Junction, Mo., Matthew and Ashley Shead of Joplin, Erin Shead and Sarah Shead from California, and Mary Virginia Shead of Arcadia.
For Christmas, Mary V. Shead received a gift from Dorothy Quier. It is a book titled "Trust and Obey," the story of the lives of George and Dorothy Quier. They are former teachers in the Arcadia school system. George was also the principal of Arcadia High School.
During their married life together, the Quiers have lived in Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, New Mexico, and Colorado. In addition, they spent time in Ohio, Washington, D.C., Costa Rica, Alaska, Hawaii, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Nova Scotia, and 40 other states.
George has built and remodeled many of the homes they have had over the years. Their daughter, Cheri, is a lawyer. Their son, Jeff passed away in 1996 from lymphoma. Jeff's family now resides in Wichita.
On Dec. 17, the Arcadia Christian Church JOY Sunday class had its monthly dinner.
Those present were: Charles and Willa Cable, Gary and Patty Peterson, Wayne and Christie Parrish, Cathy Allen, Pat and Jim Krieger, Michelle Castro, and Mary V. Shead.
Cookies were packed to give to friends of the class. Approximately 80 boxes of cookies were packed. The January 2013 meeting of JOY will be on Jan. 21.
Presbyterian Village invited everyone to come for the Tour of the Trees on Dec. 13. Many attended and were treated to appetizers and holiday beverages, along with the tour of the theme-decorated Christmas trees.
Mary V. Shead attended Community Christian Church in Fort Scott on Sunday, Dec. 30, with her son, Larry and Vickie Shead, grandson, Mark and Haley Shead, and two of her great-grandchildren, Katy and Benjamin Shead. Among those she saw and was greeted by were: Lewis Kalm, Ruth Waring and daughter Brenda, Sam Jackson, Jon Bailes, Roger and Ronda Bailey, Jerry and Judy Witt, Steve and Janet Armstrong, Carey Lockwood (Mary V.'s husband, Paul Shead formerly did business with Grand Lockwood, Carey's dad), Ron and Karen Billiard and Kevin Moyers.
Several people told Mary V. that they enjoy reading her Arcadia items in the paper each week.
Mae Watt recently enjoyed a family get-together held at the home of Bill and Karen Watt in Napoleon, Mo. The 41 relatives in attendance were: Bruce and Nancy and Ella Watt, James Watt and Abby, Robin and Charlotte, Michael and Elena Watt, Mary Watt and Trinity, Kriss and Ilene Carter, Delton Watt Jr., Aaron and Jenne Edwards and A.J. and Hali; Tim and Alyce Hutchinson and Alex Peyton, Kayla and Kaydem; Tom and Phyllis Watt, Tom Watt Jr. Jennie Woodward and Dawson, Austin, Tracey, Sydeny and Trent Siemens.
