The Kansas State High School Activities Association has released post-season assignments for winter sports and none of the area schools will have to travel very far for finals.
Fort Scott High School's basketball teams won't have to travel at all unless either of them are the lower seed for the first round of their Class 4A Sub-State Tournament. The semifinals and finals will be held in the FSHS gymnasium.
First-round games take place on the home courts of the higher-seeded teams on Feb. 25 and 26. Semifinals take place on Feb. 28 and March 1 with finals on March 2.
Other schools assigned to the Fort Scott Sub-State are Southeast Kansas League rival Pittsburg, CNC League schools Baxter Springs, Columbus, Frontenac and Girard, and Pioneer League members Anderson County and Prairie View.
Uniontown has been placed in the Northeast Class 2A Sub-State, with semifinals and finals to be held in Arma on Feb. 28 and March 1 and 2. First-round games take place on higher-seeded teams' courts on Feb. 25 and 26.
Other schools in this Sub-State are Three Rivers League rivals Oswego and Pleasanton, along with Howard-West Elk, Madison/Hamilton, Sedan and Yates Center.
The Fort Scott High School wrestling team will participate in the Class 4A Regional Tournament at Pittsburg on Feb. 15 and 16. There will be 16 schools in this regional. All of the Southeast Kansas League schools will be present -- the Tigers, host Purple Dragons, Chanute, Coffeyville, Independence, Labette County and Parsons -- as well as Columbus, Frontenac, Anderson County, Prairie View, Louisburg, Osawatomie and Paola.
