"We've been pretty successful so far."
Coach Chad Hays and assistant Drew Johnson have seen their seventh-grade boys' basketball team at Uniontown roll out to a 7-4 record.
The Eagles have dispatched most of the competition, with Jayhawk-Linn and Marmaton Valley the teams to have held them off.
"We don't have a lot of size at this age yet, but it's a good group."
Ben George at point, Gavin Fry at forward, Tyler Cooper at forward, Clay Robinson at guard, and Nick Ragan at guard, along with Sheldon Bailey at wing, provide the rotation, with help from Jacob Wiggins, Drue Stoughton, Treyton Church and Dylan Ruggles.
Fry and Cooper have contributed the bulk of the scoring and have also been a major factor on the boards.
Everyone has gotten in on the assist ledger, with the team's balanced passing attack creating scoring opportunities.
"This group really hustles," said Hays, assessing his team's strengths. "We're always on the floor, going after loose balls. We really get after it on defense, too."
The team has a key test coming up Jan. 7 following the holiday break, with nemesis Jayhawk-Linn, as the Eagles will try to reverse their fortunes and put that opponent into the Uniontown win column.
"It will be a tough game. But we're working on that now at practice."
