COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Fort Scott Community College sophomore defensive back Kevin Short was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-America First Team Defense earlier this week.
Short, from Florissant, Mo. holds the FSCC single-season and career records for interceptions. He picked off 5 passes in each of his two seasons as a Greyhound.
This season, Short finished tied for second in the Jayhawk Conference in interceptions and tied for sixth in passes defended with 11, which includes 5 passes broken up.
Short is also one of the top kick returners in the conference. This season, he finished second in kickoff returns, averaging 28.3 yards per return. He was sixth in punt returns with an average of 9.1 yards on 18 returns. His total punt return yardage, 163, was second in the conference and no one had more kick return yards, 425. His averages were lower than the official conference leaders because he had a greater number of returns.
Short also scored on an interception return, a kickoff return and a punt return this season.
Short has verbally committed to play at the University of Kansas next season, according to various reports. At least seven Division I schools were interested in his services.
