She married Hollie LaVerne "Kid" Dennis on Jan. 3, 1946, in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2010.
She graduated from Fulton High School and later received her teaching degree from Pittsburg State University. Margie taught for many years for the Mapleton, Leroy, Kingman and Paola, Kan., school districts where she primarily taught middle school math.
Following their retirement the couple moved from Paola to Fort Scott in 1988. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church. While in Kingman, Margie was a member of the Eastern Star and had served as Worthy Matron. She was also active with the Iza Stompers Square Dance Club and the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary in Fort Scott. She enjoyed creating and collecting Santa Claus dolls, as well as collecting birdhouses and Precious Moments figures.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Soldan, and husband, Tim, Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandsons, Joe Hix, Atlanta, Ga., and Scott Hix, Las Vegas, Nev. Also surviving is a sister Frances Louise Crouch, Joplin, Mo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles F. McNeil, Thomas H. McNeil and Daniel McNeil and a sister, Frances Louise Crouch.
Rev. Dr. Bill Cox assisted by Elder Robert Clark will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in U.S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
