Butler men use hot shooting to beat 'Hounds

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

EL DORADO -- Butler shot 52 percent from the field here Saturday night and used that hot shooting touch to send Fort Scott Community College's men to their second straight defeat, 77-54.

Fort Scott (5-4) trailed 35-19 at the half as head coach Michael Cook told the Tribune that the Greyhounds shot just 21 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

"I would say that our energy was not where it should have been at the beginning of the game," Cook said. "There were some good looks; we just didn't knock the shots down. The percentage got better from the field and the three-point line the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome."

Kevin House finished with 15 points for Fort Scott while Austin Danner added 12. Ray Ray Chase had 9 rebounds.

Butler (9-2) made 30 of 58 field-goal attempts, including 5 of 15 3-point shots. Trent Richardson came off the bench for the Grizzlies to score 19 points, making 7 of 10 field-goal attempts.

House handed out 4 assists for Fort Scott. Gary Floyd picked up 3 steals.

Cook noted that Anderson County product Jason Stoneking played well off the bench, adding 7 points and grabbing 5 rebounds.

The Greyhounds travel to Lexington, Mo., for a game with Wentworth Military at 7:30 Wednesday night. Fort Scott beat the Red Dragons by 4 points, 78-74, at Arnold Arena on Nov. 17. The schools' women's teams tip off the non-conference doubleheader at 5:30.
