HESSTON -- Destavia Davis scored Hesston's last 8 points here Tuesday night as she led a rally in the last 2 1/2 minutes that brought the Larks a 51-48 victory over Fort Scott Community College's women in Region VI Division II play.

The Greyhounds (0-1 Division, 4-1 overall) led just once and only briefly in the first half. But a 11-0 run midway through the second put them in front, 40-34, with 8:35 left and Fort Scott looked to pull away.

But Hesston (1-0, 4-2) wouldn't go away and got within a point, 44-43, with 3:50 to go when Kelli Christensen hit a 3-point shot. Moments later, Davis took a steal in to give the Larks the lead.

D'Shawna Lee put Fort Scott back in front with 2:57 to go with a pair of free throws. But Davis was fouled on a layup and converted the 3-point play moments later to give Hesston the lead for good.

Davis scored a transition basket off a turnover to make it 50-46 with 27 seconds left. Erika McKenzie brought the 'Hounds within a basket with a layup with 20 seconds left.

Davis made one of two free throws with 19 seconds to go. Fort Scott called time out with 8.1 seconds left. Out of that, Cheianne Ivy drove looking for a hoop-and-harm play but got neither and Hesston pulled down the rebound as the horn sounded.

McKenzie finished with 14 points for the Greyhounds and Lee added 12. Davis led Hesston with 17 points. MaKayla Ladwig added 10 for the Larks.

Fort Scott trailed 16-8 with 10:51 left in the first half but went on an 11-3 run to tie the score at 19-19. The streak ended with back-to-back layups by McKenzie.

Davis put the Larks up 22-19 with a 3-point goal with 3:53 left. Lee's stickback with 3:30 left tied the score again and her layup with 1:23 left put Fort Scott in front for the first time.

Ladwig hit an 18-footer to put Hesston in front at the half, 24-23.

Tori Wheeler took a steal in for a layup to make it 34-29 with 14:48 left in the game. Lewis sparked the 11-0 run with a pair of layups and McKenzie capped it with a long jumper.

The 'Hounds shot 37 percent from the floor, making 19 of 51 field-goal tries while the Larks shot 33 percent on 22 of 66. Hesston outrebounded Fort Scott, 41-40, and forced 25 turnovers.
