KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Sophomore Austin Danner scored 20 points and connected on five 3-point field goals here Saturday afternoon as Fort Scott Community College's men broke a long road losing streak with an 87-78 victory over Penn Valley.
Danner was 7 of 9 from the floor while the Greyhounds (2-2) made 59 percent of their field-goal attempts (27 of 46) and 23 of 33 free throws.
Fort Scott also got 12 points from Tyler Adams and 11 from Gary Floyd as the Fort Scott High School products combined to make 9 of 11 field-goal tries. Ray Ray Chase grabbed 14 of Fort Scott's 31 rebounds.
The 'Hounds led 39-27 at the half.
Fort Scott snapped a road losing streak of 17 games -- 21 if neutral-site games are included. The Greyhounds' last road win came at Allen, 63-54, on Feb. 19, 2011. Coincidentally, a 76-73 win against North Central Missouri two nights later was the last time the 'Hounds won back-to-back games before Saturday. Fort Scott defeated Central Methodist JV, 88-67, Wednesday night.
Both Fort Scott teams play at Hesston tonight for their first doubleheader that counts toward seeding for the Region VI Division II post-season tournament. The women's game tips off at 6 p.m. with the men set to begin at 8. A webcast is scheduled to be available at www.hesston.edu/larks.
