Just after deadline Friday night/Saturday morning, the Tribune received the brackets for the two Class 4-3-2-1A Southeast Regional Soccer tournaments that begin Monday with play-in games.
The Kansas State High School Activities Association guidelines printed prior to the season stated that seeding meetings were scheduled for Saturday morning. But since all 10 teams being seeded were finished with their regular seasons, they went ahead and got things done early.
The 10 schools were split into two five-team brackets. As the No. 2 seed, Fort Scott (11-5) will host the winner of a play-in game Tuesday and will be the host site of the Southeast Region II Championship Match even if the Tigers do not advance to that game.
Monday's game will be between No. 10 seed Columbus (2-14) and No. 7 seed Riverton (6-7) at Riverton. The Tigers defeated Columbus in both regular-season meetings but split with Riverton, losing 1-0 to the Rams on Tuesday. Fort Scott will host the winner of that game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ellis Park.
Tuesday's other semifinal game has No. 6 Louisburg (8-8) visiting No. 3 Coffeyville (8-5-1).
Southeast Regional I also begins Monday with a No. 9 Paola (3-13) visiting No. 8 Independence (4-11). The winner of that game travels to Baldwin (14-2) Tuesday. Tuesday's other semifinal in that bracket pits No. 5 Ottawa (8-7-1) at No. 4 Spring Hill (7-6-3). The winner's of Tuesday's games will play for the championship Thursday at Baldwin.
The farther-west school of the two Southeast champions will be placed in the quarterfinal bracket with the three South Central Regional winners while the farther-east school will be played with the three Northeast Regional champions. Quarterfinal matches will be held Oct. 30.
