Tiger soccer on track for Regional home date

Friday, October 19, 2012

Saturday morning, the Fort Scott High School soccer team will find out if it will be the host of a Class 4-3-2-1A Southeast Regional Tournament game on Tuesday at Ellis Park. A seeding meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at Fort Scott High School to place 10 schools into two five-team brackets.

The 10 teams that will be seeded at the meeting are Fort Scott, Baldwin, Coffeyville, Columbus, Independence, Louisburg, Ottawa, Paola, Riverton and Spring Hill. Those 10 teams will be seeded according to their regular-season record -- with tie-beakers as needed -- and placed into one of two five-team brackets.

Southeast Regional I will have the teams seeded first, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth. Southeast Regional II will have seeds two, three, six, seven and 10.

Monday afternoon, games involving seeds seven and 10, and seeds eight and nine will be played. The winners advance to a Tuesday regional semifinal game. All four semifinals will be played on the same day.

Semifinal winners will play for Regional championships on Thursday. The home fields of seeds one and two will be the site of those contests regardless of who the finalists are.

Regional winners advance to the State quarterfinal round October 30. The Southeast champion located farther west will be send to the South Central quarterfinals. The champion located farther east will be sent to the Northeast quarterfinals.

The State semifinals, third-place game and championship will be held the weekend of Nov. 2-3 at Kansas City-Piper. Former FSHS girls' basketball head coach Doug Key is the tournament manager.

Because the Tribune will not publish another issue between the time of the meeting and Tuesday morning, news of the result of the seeding meeting will be posted online when it becomes available. Look for details at www.fstribune.com or on the Tribune's feeds on Facebook (FSTribune) or Twitter (@FSTribune).

At press time, the Tigers' season record was 10-5. They lost at Riverton, 1-0, Tuesday and were at Paola for their final regular-season match Thursday.
