William "Billy" Joseph Counterman, age 36, resident of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at the Mercy Hospital emergency room in Fort Scott. He was born Dec. 20, 1975, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of John Counterman Sr. and Nancy Clark Counterman.
He worked as a framer in the construction business. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, as well as fishing. Billy was a quiet person, willing to help anyone who needed him.
Survivors include six brothers, Lester Hobbs, Appleton City, Mo., Danny Hobbs and wife Lillie, Clinton, Ark., David Hobbs and wife Tina, Kansas City, Mo., John Counterman and wife Lisa, Foster, Mo., Michael Counterman and wife Cindy, Foster, Mo., and Joseph Decker Jr., Pleasanton, Kan.; three sisters, Nancy Butler, Pleasanton, Kan., Sandi Keating and husband Shawn, Fort Scott, Kan., and Nova Decker, Oskaloosa, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Hobbs; a nephew, Brandon Workman; and his father. His mother, Nancy Decker, passed away the day following on Oct. 15, 2012.
Pastor Larry Hess will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery, Foster, Mo. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
