INDEPENDENCE -- Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team defeated Independence in four sets in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play here Monday night. The scores were 25-12, 23-25, 25-10, 31-29.
Haylee Toothman was credited with 22 kills for the Greyhounds in the match while Ali Cure had 11 and Jacy Ermel had 10. Taylyn Schwartz was credited with 51 assists. Kate Smith had 28 digs while Cure had 20.
The win puts the Greyhounds at 2-4 in conference play and 20-9 overall, their second consecutive 20-win season. This also makes Fort Scott 3-4 in Division II post-season seeding, which puts them as the No. 7 seed if the season had ended Monday night.
Independence fell to 0-8 in the East, 7-28 overall.
Tonight, Fort Scott hosts Neosho County in another conference match-up that is also important for post-season seeding. The Greyhounds have split with the Panthers (3-4, 19-15) in non-conference play this season. Neosho won a match at the Allen Tournament in five sets on Sept. 21. Fort Scott won in four sets last weekend at the East Central (Mo.) Tournament.
Tonight's play begins at 6:30 p.m. at Arnold Arena.
