GARNETT -- Fort Scott High School's volleyball team went 2-2 at the Anderson County Tournament here Saturday. The Tigers will go into Class 4A Sub-State play at Pittsburg this weekend with a record of 10-23.
"Overall I thought the girls did a really good job," Fort Scott head coach Carol Bingesser said. "We let a couple of the matches slip away from us but, for the most part, I thought we played with a lot of intensity. It was nice to get back on track and get a couple of wins.
"We need to make sure that we finish on Saturday. We need to play with a lot of intensity. It's not how we started the season that matters, it's how we finish and we need to finish strong."
The Tigers lost to host Anderson County in the opening match, 23-25, 25-12, 25-12. Brianne Lawrence had 6 kills for Fort Scott and Ericah Shoemaker had 5. Paige Denton picked up 12 digs while Shelby Maycumber had 9.
The Tigers beat Labette County in their next match, 25-19, 17-25, 25-19. Shoemaker and Jillian Lattimer had 6 kills each. Shoemaker and Lawrence each served 2 aces. Delane Gray was credited with 5 blocks and Lattimer with 4. Denton had 12 digs while Maycumber had 8.
Prairie View won the third match, 25-16, 28-26. Lattimer led with 8 kills. Shoemaker had 2 aces and Denton came up with 10 digs.
Fort Scott beat Iola in the final match, 25-17, 25-14. Maycumber was credited with 8 kills while Lattimer had 6. Denton picked up 9 digs and Rikki Butler had 8.
