RICHMOND -- Uniontown's volleyball team went 2-3 at the Central Heights Tournament here Saturday.

The Eagles lost three matches to Class 4A schools in the tournament, including two to Girard. Uniontown is a Class 2A school.

"This tournament is always a tough one for us," Eagle Head Coach Jackie Hall said. "Seeing some teams from up north that run quicker offenses is hard to adjust to, but something we need to see."

The Eagles defeated Central Heights, a 3A school, in the pool play opener, 25-11, 25-14. Emily Shinn had 6 kills and 7 block assists. Hayden Rathbun had 5 kills.

Girard downed Uniontown in the next match, 25-18, 25-20. Mandie Ridge had 4 kills. Hannah Travis assisted on 14 blocks. Brit Stokes handed out 8 assists.

Uniontown defeated Kansas City Christian, 25-10, 25-12. Rathbun and Ridge had 6 kills each. Stokes handed out 19 assists.

The Eagles fell to Class 4A Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail, 25-8, 25-7, in the last pool match. Stokes handed out 6 assists.

"Santa Fe Trail is a very athletic team that runs a very quick tempo offense," Hall said. "We simply couldn't get blocks out to shut their hitters down.

In the consolation round, Girard defeated Uniontown, 25-22, 29-27. Rathbun had 5 kills and Stokes handed out 14 assists.

The Eagles will be in Moran tonight for a non-league triangular with Pleasanton and host Marmaton Valley. Saturday, they will be the host school for the Class 2A Sub-State Tournament. Brackets will be released Wednesday
