Heart of the Heartlands motorcar ride is set for Sunday, Nov. 11.
It will run 119 miles round trip from Burden to Fredonia. Participants will set on at Main Street in Burden and will be able to park on the street and along the tracks.
Set on will start at 8 a.m. and a safety meeting is set for 8:50 a.m. Departure from Burden is approximately 9 a.m., returning at 6 p.m. After departing Burden, Grand Summit, Grenola and several other towns before returning to Fredonia. Participants may also stop in Moline for a break going each direction.
In Fredonia, there is the Western Diner a short walk from the tracks. From the reviews on the Internet, a sack lunch might be warranted, a release said. There is also a convenience store located within walking distance.
Cost is a $20 donation to Heart of the Heartlands and you must be a North American Rail Car Operators Association (NARCOA) member. Meet Coordinator Mark Springer said the organization is "very appreciative" Watco of Pittsburg and the South Kansas and Oklahoma for allowing the group on the tracks and "having our hobby time."
