Helen Elaine Thomas, 76, of Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Mercy Hospital. She was born Nov. 27, 1935, in Theresa, N.Y., the daughter of Leslie E. and Margaret (Hall) Gillett. She married Otis "Otie" Thomas March 31, 1956, in Briar Hill, N.Y.

Helen attended Morristown High School in New York, and St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. She was the treasurer and co-owner with her husband Otie of Graphic Resources Corp. Helen also taught high school and college English, and was the treasurer for Kappa Delta sorority. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and she was also a charter member and treasurer of Kiwanis Pioneers.

Helen is survived by her husband, Otie; nephew, Michael O. McWilliams of Australia; several other nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Jane Gillett of Alexander Bay, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Roger Gillett.

The Rev. Jared Witt will conduct funeral services 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Scott with burial following at the Fort Scott National Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home,15 W. Wall St., P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, Kan. 6670.
