The All-SE-KAN girls' golf team was made official and released Tuesday afternoon. SE-KAN was created by Fort Scott Head Coach Karen Curran and her husband, Girard Head Coach Steve Curran, in 2004. That was a time when none of the leagues in Southeast Kansas sponsored the sport and the players didn't have league honors to earn.
Last week's Herald-Tribune included the All-SE-KAN list but presented it in error as the final standings. The Anderson County Tournament, held Monday, was to be the final event counted toward SE-KAN standings.
Even though the Southeast Kansas League now has enough teams to make girls' golf a league sport, SEK players are still eligible for SE-KAN honors, which include players from schools in the CNC, Three Rivers, and Tri-Valley leagues. Those leagues still do not hold a girls' golf championship.
The highest-finishing player from local schools was Fort Scott senior Karley Stark, who earned All-SE-KAN Honorable Mention. Her score of 422 in SE-KAN events put her in the 15th and final position for honors on the list.
The top 10 players were All-SE-KAN All-Area and the next five were Honorable Mention.
For the third time in as many seasons, Girard's Timbrelee McNair tops the list with a record-setting score of 297. That beat the record she set last season, 319, by 22 strokes. However, Coffeyville's Anna Pool broke McNair's freshman record by shooting 321 to finish second in All-SE-KAN standings. McNair's freshman record was the 324 she recorded in 2010.
Uniontown freshman Torrie Hathaway finished 19th with her total of 427. Fort Scott junior Morgan Robertson was 24th with a 445. Fort Scott senior Laine Parks and Uniontown freshman Haven Bradbury were two of four who tied for 25th with 452.
Natalie Wolf, a Fort Scott senior, was 31st at 462. Uniontown junior Monica Ramsey was 34th at 472. Fort Scott sophomore Maggie McDonald and Uniontown junior Anna Obere tied for 36th at 493. Fort Scott junior Hayden Shelden tied for 38th at 496.
Uniontown junior Jordan Mason finished 41st on the list with a 501. Fort Scott senior Ingrid Diaz was 45th at 515.
Four of the top 10 players and six of the top 15 were freshmen. There were just three seniors in the top 10 and five in the top 15.
