Just two weeks in and the Fort Scott debate team has been to five tournaments and argued more than 150 rounds of debate.
Coach Brian Weilert said this squad is much younger and inexperienced compared to past years.
"We are starting a little behind just based on how many tournaments the upper-classmen have debated. Our goal is to get better each week and be a factor at the state tournament in the end. We will continue to attend good tournaments as now is not the time to lower the bar," Weilert said in a news release.
The Tigers have competed at Washburn Rural, Emporia, Gardner-Edgerton, Blue Valley West and Southeast thus far. Senior debater Caleb Moore, along with juniors Tyler Slinkard and Taylor Watkins, has been very competitive at the upper varsity level. Novices who have distinguished themselves are partners: Garrett Tatro/Camden Stiles, Jacob Pemberton/Trenton Sinn, and Charlotte Hutchinson/Erin Thurston.
These three teams have all placed in the first two weeks.
