Janice Carol Johnson, age 78, a former resident of Fort Scott and more recently of Kirbyville, Texas, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at her home.

She was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Kingman, Kan., the daughter of Lester Dennett and Gladys Pavey Dennett. She married Edgar L. "Red" Johnson on Oct. 20, 1956. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1999.

In her earlier years, Janice worked for various aircraft manufacturing companies in Wichita, Kan. She later worked as a waitress and also for American States Insurance Company in Fort Scott.

Survivors include her son, Michael A. Walker and wife, Marian, Kirbyville, Texas; two grandchildren, Jeremy Walker and wife, Heather, Beaumont, Texas, and Mindy Walker, Kansas City, Mo.; and two great-granddaughters, Tessa and Alanna. Also surviving are a sister, Norma Moss, Newton, Kan., and Janice's beloved dog, Tina. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis.

Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct funeral services at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Fort Scott Animal Shelter and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan.
