On the same day that Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team fell out of the NJCAA Division II poll, the Greyhounds dropped a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division match to seventh-ranked Johnson County in three sets Wednesday night at Arnold Arena.

The Greyhounds are 15-5 overall but have lost three of their last five, including two matches against unranked team at the Allen Tournament last weekend. Johnson County improved to 17-2.

The first set was fairly even until Johnson County took control with 12-2 run to make the score 22-10.

The Cavaliers led the second set 16-9 before the 'Hounds scored 6 straight, getting within a point on Dani Rubow's kill. Fort Scott narrowed the lead to 1 point three times before Kim Blusher scored the last 2 for the Cavs.

Johnson County led the third set 19-12 and 24-17. A kill by Uniontown graduate Jacy Ermel sparked a rally that brought Fort Scott within 24-23 before an error ended the match.

Haylee Toothman recorded 11 kills for the Greyhounds while Ali Cure had 8. Taylyn Schwartz handed out 25 assists. Toothman and Cure each came up with 29 digs while libero Kate Smith had 27.

Fort Scott hosts Redlands (Okla.) in a non-conference match at 6 p.m. Friday.
