Fort Scott's soccer team overcame a sluggish first half in which they allowed an own goal to take a 2-1 "golden goal" victory over Spring Hill Monday at Ellis Park.

"Golden goal" is the soccer equivalent of sudden-death overtime. Roger Rodriguez scored from about 25 yards on a free kick three minutes into the extra session to give the Tigers the victory.

Fort Scott is 4-2, the best the program has ever been after six matches in a season.

Spring Hill controlled the ball in the first half but only managed the own goal in the 17th minute when one of the Tigers accidentally caromed the ball off a teammate.

Marcus Brennon tied the score with a shot from about 20 yards out in the 67th minute.
