Mark Leroy Shinn, 62, of Iola, Kan., died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012.

Mark was born June 10, 1950, in Iola, the son of James and Thora (Nichols) Shinn. He graduated from Iola High School, Iola Junior College and served six years in the Kansas Army National Guard.

Mark worked for H&M Market in Iola where Glen Thompson taught him to cut meat. He later worked as a meat cutter for Foodtown in Fredonia, Neodesha, Independence and Iola. He recently worked at Bolling's Meat Market in Iola.

Mark married Judy Collins and they divorced. He then married Susan Whaley and they later divorced.

He was a member of the Iola American Legion and Iola Elks Lodge.

Survivors include one son Brett Shinn and wife, Miriah Feather of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters, Crystal Shinn of Kenosha, Wis., Tabitha Shinn and husband, Brian Schwermer of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Amber Sanchez and husband, Matt of Tulsa, Okla.; his mother, Thora Shinn of Iola, Kan.; two brothers, Alan Shinn and wife, Becky of Uniontown, Kan., and Jack Shinn of Pittsburg, Kan.; four grandchildren, Blade Feather, Aiden Feather, Nicole Schwermer and Shi Anne Sanchez.

He was preceded in death by his father, James O. Shinn.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at Turkey Creek Cemetery north of Uniontown, Kan.,

Memorials may be made to Iola American Legion or Iola Elks Lodge. Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
