Marvel L. Harry, 86, of Pittsburg, Kan., passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Via Christi Hospital.

She was born July 5, 1926, at Mindenmines, Mo., to Fred and Gladys (Lasley) Maxwell. She attended schools in Mindenmines and graduated from Mindenmines High School in 1943. She then graduated from Kansas City Secretarial College. On Feb. 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lee Edwin Harry at Pittsburg, Kan. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1989.

Mrs. Harry was the office manager and bookkeeper for Dr. Clarence Benage for many years and then worked at S.E.K Mental Health.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Five Mary's Circle, Rob Morris OES Chapter No. 74 and the Bon Temps Pinochle Club.

Mrs. Harry is survived by two sons, Steven Harry and his wife Patricia of Fort Scott, and Greg Harry of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Fred Maxwell Jr. of Mindenmines, Mo.; four grandchildren Maj. Christopher Steven Harry and his wife Annaliese of Wahiawa, Hawaii, Elisa Harry Denning and her husband Toby of Lenexa, Kan., Tiffany Harry McFarland and husband Bryce of McPherson, Kan., and Whitney Harry of Wichita; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, and a granddaughter Ashley Lee Harry.

A service for Mrs. Harry will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at the Brenner Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery.

Eastern Star services will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends until 8 p.m. following the Eastern Star Services.

The family suggests memorials to the Eastern Star Scholarship Fund, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th Street, Pittsburg, Kan., 66762.
