Lee George Mashek, 58, of Deerfield, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Freeman Health System West, Joplin, following a sudden illness.
He was born April 30, 1954, in Fort Scott, to James J. Mashek and Bernelda J. Custer Mashek.
He and Patricia S. Nickelson were married on April 25, 2000, in Miami, Okla., and she survives of the home.
Lee attended school in Richards and Nevada. He served in the National Guard in Fort Scott for several years. Lee worked for Johnson and Baker Trucking in Nevada for the past 12 years.
He was a member of the Nevada Elks Lodge No. 564 and the Garden Tractor Pulling Association, Richards, Mo. Lee was baptized at the Richards Christian Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife Pat, include eight children, Jody Sandness and her husband Marc, Compton Junction, Mo., Tonya Mashek, Pittsburg, Kan., Frederick Wittenberg and his wife Jodi, Deerfield, Mo., Donald Wittenberg, Fort Scott, Miria Atkins and her husband Kelly, Fort Scott, Jodi Hardin, Fort Scott, Kevin Kastl, Fort Scott, and Mary Hilliard and her husband Kevin, Claremore, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; siblings, Susan Mashek, Nevada, Kim Mashek and his wife Nancy, Richards, and Jeanne Brewer and her husband Ray, Springfield, Mo.; father, James J. Mashek, Richards, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernelda, on April 30, 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Richland Cemetery, Richards, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service, and the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday evening, Aug. 2, 2012, at the funeral home.
