Juanita May Spencer, 74, a resident of rural Fort Scott, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at her home.

She was born Dec. 7, 1937, in Yale, Ill., the daughter of Wilbert Fear and Velva Miller Fear. She married Norman James Spencer on June 11, 1977, in Nevada, Mo. Juanita enjoyed reading, crocheting and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include her husband, Norman, of the home; a daughter, Marianne Avett, of the home; three step-daughters, Victoria Jean Kilgore, Phoenix, Ariz., Janet Lee Spencer, Prescott, Ariz., and Peggy Sue Quentinella, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Also surviving are two brothers, Evert Fear, Terre Haute, Ind., and Ray Fear, La Porte, Ind.; a sister, Grace Smith, Vincennes, Ind.; six step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a step-son, James Edward Spencer.

Hospice Chaplain Jeff Owen assisted by Pastor Donna Clark Fuller will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the West Liberty Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas, the Hammond United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
